چکیده

We investigated whether a 1-week stay in the mountains may have positive impact on Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB) and cardiorespiratory endurance asthmatic children from an urban area. Spirometry was performed before 10 min after 20 m shuttle run test (20mSRT) first seventh day of summer asthma camp Italian Alps at 900 altitude. z-scores were derived Global Lung Initiative 2012 prediction equations, percentiles 20mSRT performance assigned according to De Miguel-Etayo’s Tomkinson’s predictive equations. A FEV1 decrease ≥10% exercise defined as EIB. Particulate matter pollution monitored during area provenience. Twenty-four subjects (age range 7–16 years) included. Frequency EIB decreased 58% (14/24) day-1 33% (8/24) end (p = 0.08). Most with lowest quartile 1 had (9/11). The proportion <25° percentile 45% (11/24) 16% (4/24) day-7 0.02). Conclusion: One-week climate therapy improved both bronchial hyperreactivity our cohort children.

Inhaled frusemide and exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in children with asthma.

BACKGROUND Nebulised frusemide has been shown to be protective against bronchoconstricting stimuli in adult asthmatic subjects and against cold air challenge in children. Animal studies suggest that inhaled frusemide may be more effective in the young. METHODS A double blind placebo, controlled, crossover study on the effect on exercise of pretreatment with frusemide (20 mg) from a metered do...

Is Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction Exercise-Induced Asthma?

The article in this issue of RESPIRATORY CARE by Burnett et al1 reports that 34 of 80 college athletes had exerciseinduced bronchoconstriction (EIB), most in the absence of symptoms. The authors further suggest that these athletes are at risk and that the identification of those with EIB may prevent morbidity and mortality. The implication is that the presence of EIB is evidence for asthma. But...

Asthma and exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in athletes.

Regular exercise is one of the most effective means to maintain good health. A substantial proportion of the general population engages in competitive sports, including many people with asthma; when controlled, asthma does not restrict exercise performance. Indeed, exercise training can improve asthma symptoms, quality of life, exercise capacity, and pulmonary function, as well as reduce airway...

Cardiopulmonary exercise testing in children and adolescents with asthma who report symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Patients with asthma often report symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. We performed cardiopulmonary exercise testing to establish the cause of exercise limitation in patients with asthma, under treatment, who reported symptoms of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Ten of the 42 patients meeting criteria for inclusion in our study (24%) developed exercise-induced bronchoconstrict...

Asthma Bronchiale and Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction.

Exercising regularly has a wide range of beneficial health effects; in particular, it has been well documented to help in the management of chronic illnesses including asthma. However, in some individuals, exertion can also trigger an exacerbation of asthmatic episodes and subsequent acute attacks of breathlessness, coughing, tightness of the chest and wheezing. This physiological process is ca...
